In July 2005, Stephen Ausherman embarked on the first of three
writing residencies with an idea for an overarching literary/photography
project titled Wunderkammern Redux. The idea then was to interpret
diverse natural environments—Buffalo National River, Devils Tower
National Monument, and Bernheim Forest—through a collection of
works that explore their common issues (e.g.: the dichotomy of
preservation versus public access) in a manner that appealed to more
neoteric sensibilities.
In short, Ausherman hopes to bridge the gap between naturalistic and
cosmopolitan worlds with works that appeal to both outdoor
enthusiasts and contemporary art aficionados.
The spirit of the project remains intact today. However, since
November he has integrated digital video art into the project...
Wunderkammer d’Albuquerque is a series of ultrashort videos shot
within 60 miles of Albuquerque. Each video focuses on a singular
subject, (e.g.: petroglyphs) which is then interpreted through sound art,
spoken word, and/or digital enhancements...

applications submitted to the New Mexico State Film Office for the
2006 New Visions/New Mexico Contract Awards. It was not among
the 12 awardees. However...
