microspikes ii

30" lo-res preview loop by Stephen Ausherman

In 2010 Ausherman began a collaboration with biochemist Kathryn
M. Eisenmann to expand his video series,
Invasive Exotica.

Eisenmann's videos reveal motility properties in human cancer
cells. Ausherman combines the cancer imagery with his own video
studies of various invasive species on public lands.

The resulting video loops are abstract interpretations that offer
viewers a cross-disciplinary meditation on undesirable species in
their non-native habitats.

microspikes ii features a horsetail reed with crustacean mutation
designed and patterned on a cervical cancer cell expressing an
oncoprotein fused with fluorescent jellyfish protein.
